What does she do in The Breakthrough Band:
Hey! I’m Maritza. I am the Worship leader for the BT band. I also play the lead electric guitar and sing for the BT Band, and I also speak at conferences on the topics of worship leading, surrender, and most recently to the young women.

How long she’s been playing for The Breakthrough Band:
I have been playing with the Breakthrough Band since the Breakthrough started in early 2010. In December of 2009, God led myself and a group of leaders to start a ministry that would turn Chicago upsidedown. After much prayer and confirmation, the Holy Spirit led us to start THE BREAKTHROUGH MINISTRY, based on 2 Samuel 5:20.

How were you called to ministry:
I was called to ministry at a very young age. When I was 12 years old, my parents sent me to a youth camp for a week. At the end of the week there was an altar call. The calling was specific for those who wanted to be used by God. I answered that call. Believe it or not, I actually returned home playing the guitar. Three years later, I began playing in my church ministry and by the age of 18 I was the worship leader. Later, I went on to receive my B.A. in Music Education from Trinity and my Masters from GSU.

When were you called to join The Breakthrough Band:
We actually first began The Breakthrough Ministry. After a while, it was clear that we needed to define what the ministry would do. We were led by the Spirit to form The Breakthrough Band. I have been with them since the beginning.

What do you enjoy the most about being in The Breakthrough Band:
I think being part of a group of passionate individuals is so rewarding. I love being part of this team. We all have the same vision…to see the hand of God work in this generation and culture. For me, it’s not even just about playing the guitar and singing, rather it’s about seeing that one life begin to walk in God’s purpose for them. It’s all about answering the call of God together and experiencing how God can use us to do as He wishes with this generation. Plus, I get to spend time doing what God has called me to do with some really great friends who I have grown to truly love!

What does he do in The Breakthrough Band:
Hi my name is Guillermo Castro but most people know me as 'Memo'. I play the electric guitar.

How long he’s been playing for The Breakthrough Band:
I've been playing the guitar with Breakthrough Band for almost 3 years.

How were you called to ministry:
My passion towards worshipping God grew when I first went to my church Rios De Agua Viva. I was touched by how the worship leader had a passion for worshipping God. Ever since then I made a decision to learn how to play the guitar. I started to learn the basics of guitar by myself then in high school I took 3 years of guitar. After a couple of years I remember somebody prayed for me and told me that the calling that God had for me was to be a worshiper for Him. That's how God showed me the calling he had for me.

When were you called to join The Breakthrough Band:
I was called to join the Breakthrough Band in May 2012. But what amazes me is that I was praying to God that I wanted to be in the Breakthrough Band because I liked how they were doing a difference in this generation and bringing them to God. I never told anybody I wanted to join the band only to God, but in May 2012 the worship leader Maritza contacted me and asked me if I wanted to join the band and without thinking twice I said Yes!

What do you enjoy the most about being in The Breakthrough Band:
What I love the most is that I get to worship God with the talent he has given to me. But I also love using that talent he gave to help others enter his presence. As well I enjoy that we the band are like a family, we are there for each others, we share the same passion towards the kingdom of God. It's a honor to be part of this family.

What does she do in The Breakthrough Band:
Hey! I'm Alma. I am the synth player for the Breakthrough Band.

How long she’s been playing for The Breakthrough Band:
Like Maritza and Joel, I have been playing with the Breakthrough Band since the Breakthrough started in early 2010. I had started by helping out in vocals but as our band grew, God opened doors and I started playing the synth for the band.

How were you called to ministry:
I started playing the keys at the age of 11. I taught myself as a kid to the best of my abilities and I had always wanted to serve in a worship team. There have been a few things prophesied over me and the ministry that I love serving in is the BT ministry. At our local church, I started off by helping count the offering money and then I served in the audio/visual team for the church. God opened doors once again and eventually I joined the Breakthrough Band.

When were you called to join The Breakthrough Band:
I remember at one point Maritza had a dream that I was playing the keys on the altar. We had left it at that and once the BT ministry came to be I just joined and we recalled that dream. God has a way of putting things and all of us, His children, together for His purpose.

What do you enjoy the most about being in The Breakthrough Band:
I enjoy seeing lives changed. I never thought I'd be a part of something bigger than myself. Seeing lives transformed, renewed, restored - that's the best part. We've seen people from all walks of life not leaving an event or service the same. After many events or services many of those people stuck to me and ministered to me as well. Growing in friendship, unity, and brotherly-love among the band members is something that is also very dear to me and all of us in the ministry. We are family.

What does she do in The Breakthrough Band:
Hey, I'm Carolina and I am one of the vocalists for The Breakthrough Band. I also am the acoustic guitar player.

How long she’s been playing for The Breakthrough Band:
I have been playing with the band for about 4 years now, since 2011.

How were you called to ministry:
I was called to ministry at a young age. I remember my family and I visiting a Christian church for the first time. As we entered those doors, the worship band was ministering. I remember telling myself I wanted to be like the guitar player. I saw how she was on fire for the Lord and as a you kid, you look up to others. As the years went on, I would regularly sing at my church. At the age of 13, I was taught the guitar by the person who is now my ministry leader. By the age of 16, I was called to use my God-given talents for worship.

When were you called to join The Breakthrough Band:
I was called to join The Breakthrough Band in the year 2011. I was asked one Sunday morning if I would like to be in the band. I had originally started out singing, but then later I was asked to play the guitar to see how it would be to incorporate another guitar and I stayed with it ever since.

What do you enjoy the most about being in The Breakthrough Band:
I think the number one thing I really enjoy about the band is how passionate everyone is about using their talents for God's glory, and how the always put Him first before anything else. I feel truly blessed that God has given the opportunity to be part of a group that loves to seek God with passionate hearts. Not only did I grow to love them as best friends, but I see them as my family. We've grown to become one in Christ.

What does she do in The Breakthrough Band:
Hi my name is Melodie and I am a vocalist!

How long she’s been playing for The Breakthrough Band:
I've been a vocalist for The Breakthrough Band for about 3 years now.

How were you called to ministry:
My family is very musically inclined, so I have been singing since I was very young. My calling has been to use the gift God has given me to worship him, and in the process, lead others to do the same. I have had the opportunity to do that in my own church as a worship leader, and also with my Breakthrough family.

When were you called to join The Breakthrough Band:
I was originally filling in at an event and God placed it in the heart of the team to have me become part of the band.

What do you enjoy the most about being in The Breakthrough Band:
I love ministering to people through song, inspiring them to seek God and go to deeper levels in him. God receives all the glory and honor in everything Breakthrough does, which is why I love being a part of this group.

What does he do in The Breakthrough Band:
I'm Jerrie and I play the bass and do the audio sound setup.

How long he’s been playing for The Breakthrough Band:
I've been with Breakthrough for a little over 3 years.

How were you called to ministry:
At a young age.

When were you called to join The Breakthrough Band:
The first time I played with Breakthrough, was just to fill in. Then, Omar and Maritza felt lead to ask me to be in the band. And I accepted!

What do you enjoy the most about being in The Breakthrough Band:
I enjoy playing with Breakthrough because I love to see lives touched by God through our music.

What does he do in The Breakthrough Band:
My name is Joel Estrada and I play drums for The Breakthrough Band. I also am the graphic designer for the ministry.

How long he’s been playing for The Breakthrough Band:
We started the ministry back in 2010, and I've been with the band ever since. It's been an amazing 4 1/2 years for the glory of God.

How were you called to ministry:
I was called to music ministry as a teenager, passionate about worship, and passionate about serving the Lord. I started off playing congas, and then eventually was taught how to play drums by my youth pastor at the time. I had never touched a drum set before then, but I quickly sought anointing and direction by dedicating my life wholly to God, and now have been playing for more than 10 years.

When were you called to join The Breakthrough Band:
I have been with the band from the start of the ministry in 2010, aligned with the vision of BT Director Omar and Worship Leader Maritza.

What do you enjoy the most about being in The Breakthrough Band:
Seeing lives changed through God's presence has to be the most fulfilling thing of this ministry we are in. That God called us and united us together to do this has been in an honor and a privilege. And I get to be in a ministry with my wife and close friends who are my family, can't get any better than that! :D

What does she do in The Breakthrough Band:
Hey! I'm Angie. I am one of the vocalist of The Breakthrough Band, and I also play the piano.

How long she’s been playing for The Breakthrough Band:
I began playing for The Breakthrough Band in 2017.

How were you called to ministry:
Growing up, I was never surrounded by a musical family. It wasn't until my family attended RDAV church, that I grew a passion for music, as did my brother Memo. I loved going to church to see the worship team minister through music. Around the age of 12, I received a word from God that He would begin to use me in the worship ministry. It was then that I began to learn how to play. At the age of 15, the worship leader invited me to be part of the church ministry. Since then, I have been using the gifts God gave me for His glory.

When were you called to join The Breakthrough Band:
My brother had to stay a bit longer at practices, to go over songs with the BT band, so I would stay along and wait for him. After practice, I would talk with some of the members. One day the Bt director Omar told me that He wanted me to be part of the team and that when I felt I was ready to speak with him and his wife. That day. I went home and put that thought aside. It wasn't until after the following BT event, that I felt that It was time; I knew it was God's perfect timing.

What do you enjoy the most about being in The Breakthrough Band:
What I love about being part of such an amazing team is that I get to worship God and see others receive gifts from the Lord. Every event is a deeper level in God's presence. It is such a blessing that I am able to be there and see how God restores and transforms the lives of many no matter their age. I love that I get to have such amazing worshipers at my side and I love them as family. There's so much more than can be said.

What does he do in The Breakthrough Band:
Hi, I'm Caleb. I play the bass for the Breakthrough Band.

How long he’s been playing for The Breakthrough Band:
I've been playing for the Breakthrough Band since 2017.

How were you called to ministry:
I had always been interested in music since I was younger. I grew up in a musical family with many of my family members being worship leaders, so music and ministry came naturally to me. I play the piano, but the bass is my passion. I started to pick up the bass in early 2016 and became a member of the RDAV worship team. I started because I had felt God leading me in the direction of ministry. I was asked to fill in for a member who could not be there, and the rest is history.

When were you called to join The Breakthrough Band:
I was asked to join the band in 2017. The worship leader asked me to fill in for someone who couldn't be there (seems to be the pattern for me, lol). God had spoken to me, so I had know for a while that I would be part of the ministry, but I hadn't known when the time would come. It has been a journey and a privilege for me. I am learning a lot.

What do you enjoy the most about being in The Breakthrough Band:
I enjoy being in the worship atmosphere. I enjoy being around this great team that God has surrounded me with. It's hard work, but it is all worth it. We are doing this for the kingdom; lives are being changed.
